This ZeroJapan tea bowl is a traditional japanese style. The thick stoneware provides insulation, the unglazed base gracefully ages with use, and the hand-applied glaze adds a sophisticated touch. The size and style makes them suitable for delicate hot beverages, such as specialist teas, or an espresso coffee, but is often used for dips and nibbles. Whereas traditional Raku glazes have charcoal added to emphasise the ‘Crackle’ style, Kikko does not, so presents a more Crystalline or cracked ice effect, offering depth to the crackle effect, almost 3 dimensional. The glaze is also a little thicker than many many tea bowls, offering additional insulation.
