Green tea was probably the original tea to be imported into the UK. It comes from the Camellia sinensis; the same plant that black tea comes from. Unlike in the process used for black tea, the leaves are quickly heated after picking to prevent too much oxidation. The leaves are then dried. In this way the original green colour of the leaves is retained.
Green teas have a fresher flavour than black teas and generally a lower caffeine content.
